End-of-year Money Moves

Act soon to make sure your last to-dos are checked off.

Have you been procrastinating on any of your checklist items that need to be completed this year? (Remember that list we give you after your quarterly meetings..?) Do you have questions for us about checking any of these items off for 2019? Well, I’m lovingly reminding you that you have until about December 18 to bring them to our attention to ensure those things are taken care of by the end of the year.

Some things you might want to think about before the 12/31/2019 deadline.

  • 2019 college education redemption requirements
  • 2019 Simple IRA employee contributions
  • 2019 401(k) employee contributions
  • 2019 charitable gifts of stock

For those of you who have taxable accounts, we’re looking to offset as much of your capital gains as possible. This year has been positive overall, so there will likely be capital gains realized in these accounts. That said, for those of you who’ve been with us a for a while, your 2019 realized capital gains should be less than what was realized in 2018.

As we all work to tie up these loose ends before the start of a new year, I want to remind you that our office gives great customer service for 48 of the 52 weeks of the year. 🙂 Now, some of you might be thinking…wait, what? There are those certain times of the year, like the Fourth of July and Thanksgiving, when we like to give our staff time to spend with their families and loved ones. We plan to have minimal staffing in our office from the time the kids get out of school on December 20th until they go back on January 6th, when we will be fully staffed again and ready for quarter one meetings to begin. We all need time to decompress, celebrate the holidays, and plan ahead for the new year – us and you.

Of course Christmas and New Year’s coincide with Winter Break, and trust me – the nine Family Financial Partners kiddos all appreciate that extra time and the wonderful family memories that are made each year. (Can you believe our team now has nine kids? That’s right – I have three, and Alex, Greg and McKellar each have two. Time flies!)
So, on behalf of my entire team and their families, we appreciate your promptness on these end-of-year matters – that way you can get back to making memories with your loved ones too.
