Life Insurance: It’s time to talk about it!
By: David Smyth, September 12, 2014
So often in this business when I talk to clients about life insurance, I hear, “Hey Dave, I don’t want to talk about this anymore. I’m not about to die and I already have some life insurance.” But because September is LifeHappens.org’s Life Insurance Awareness Month, I do want to take some time to talk to you about this important topic. Bear with me. Now that the kids are back in school and fall is getting into full swing, it’s the perfect time not only to make sure you’re covered, but to make sure your family is protected as well.
As your life and family grow and change, your life insurance needs grow and change too. Perhaps when you started with us, you were a medical student in residency and weren’t yet married. Life insurance wasn’t a priority in your financial life. You preferred to spend that money at Buffalo Wild Wings. Or maybe you’d just gotten married, hadn’t had kids yet and figured if something happened to you or your spouse, the other would adjust and find a way forward. But, as the years have gone by, inevitably your life has gotten more complex with the addition of a spouse or kids. And that means it’s time to reevaluate your life insurance needs.
Then again maybe we met you at a time when you had four kids in high school and college. They were in a highly dependent and expensive stage of life and you were worried about paying for school. At the time, you probably chose term life insurance, but now, 10 or 15 years later, all your kids are done with school, you survived, and it’s time to start planning for you again and thinking about protecting your retirement. Maybe it’s time to convert from term to permanent life insurance coverage.
Speaking of those kids, they represent the family approach we take to financial planning. They’re now those medical residents or newlyweds who need to think about life insurance for the first time. That’s the cycle of life and we want to help everyone in your family plan for a secure financial future. Call us today and introduce us to your kids and other family members. Let us see how we can help each generation of your family protect what’s important to them.
