Spring Updates

I don’t know about you, but my March Madness bracket has pretty much been blown up. Shouldn’t we just go ahead and give it to Gongaza? Outside of picking Oral Roberts to win the opening round and Syracuse to make the Sweet 16, well, I crashed and burned. If yours is doing better and you have some sort of secret sauce, please, let me know. I’m sure you’ll be amused to know that the Family Financial employee who’s currently winning our bracket pool picked their winners based on mascot. HA!

Speaking of people dressed like animals, I’ll be heading out with my family soon for a limited-capacity Disney vacation to celebrate Spring Break and my youngest’s 8th birthday at the Magic Kingdom. The boys have already planned out a day 2 adventure all around Star Wars, complete with Storm Troopers, light-saber-making and visiting Jabba the Hut’s cantina, all at 30 percent capacity of course.

But fear not! Spring Break for the Smyth boys officially ends April 2, otherwise known as Keeneland Opening Day! I’ll be resuming my record-breaking streak of participating in opening days that goes back to when I was 18 years old (an undisclosed number of years ago!), which was only broken due to Covid. However, my fall streak remains intact.

Before you ask, the tickets have been doled out already, as I ended up with about a quarter of the number of tickets I usually have. However, I am looking forward to getting out there and seeing folks, so if you were lucky in the ticket lottery, please let me know when you plan to be there so we can meet for a cocktail and burgoo and watch a race together. By April 6 I will be fully vaccinated and less risky to be around. Well, when it comes to Covid anyway!

As an office, we are super excited (and relieved!) to note that the last tax forms have gone out to our clients and/or your account. If you’re missing anything, let us know and we’ll forward those along to you.

Speaking of the office, we’re thrilled about our new North Wing! No, it’s not named after Oliver North, although we’d encourage you to check out this list and see if you can figure out who it is named after. In all seriousness, though, this new space will house our socially distanced operations department, as well as space for new staff as we continue to grow and serve you and yours.

Outside of these updates, we’re happy to report that all of our staff and their families are safe and healthy, and we’re looking forward to seeing you face-to-face, hopefully in the not-too-distant future. As an extrovert (a surprise to absolutely no one, I know), I really do miss hanging out socially with everyone. As always, if you’re venturing out, please, be safe, and let me know if your plans are taking you to Keeneland, or if you’d like to join me on the patio one evening. I look forward to catching up with you all.
